When the pelvis is assessed one side or both sides could be anteriorly rotated which would be pulling the hips forward, putting stress on the lower back. Or the pelvis might be posteriorly rotated making the hips turn backward putting stress on the spine and surrounding muscles.<\/p>\n<p>One side of the hip could be elevated more than the other which leads to tightening on one side of the lower back causing the spine to be tilted. The pain can be felt in the lower back, one or both sides of the glutes or legs.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-115 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/13.211.60.251\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/back-pain-288x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massagebysigh.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/back-pain-288x300.png 288w, https:\/\/massagebysigh.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/back-pain.png 764w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 288px) 100vw, 288px\" \/>The pain can also make its way down to the back of the knee. Checking where the hips are sitting helps determine which muscles to release with the correct techniques. The lumber area of the back has a curvature in the spine for a reason, it is shaped that way because it is our shock absorber, so it needs to be balanced.<\/p>\n<p>The sciatic nerve runs between the L4 and L5 vertebrae in the lower back. When there is a tightness this causes an impingement on the nerve. If the nerve is compressed this causes sciatica. The pain from sciatica can be felt in the lower back, glutes, down the back of the leg and calf muscle. It can branch off to the front of the leg as well. The entire hip, lower back, glutes and whole of the legs are worked on to<br \/>\nrelease the muscles that cause the the pain.
