Massage is an important part of the way you live to maximize your overall wellness, alongside nutrition, sleep, and exercise. Massage, when done right, can remove the tension from the body’s soft tissue that can cause pain and problems with mobility. It can help the body to get rid of built-up waste and excessive fluid. It can help you relax and de-stress.

But it must be done right. An “off-the-rack” massage, might feel nice for the duration, but it is not therapeutic. To get lasting benefits requires a thorough evaluation by an experienced therapist before you start a focused treatment designed specifically for you. And it requires the expert touch of someone who understands a woman’s body. This is what Massage by Sigh does.

Services

Massage by Sigh offers a range of bodywork:

Sports/Remedial

Sport (and life) can throw your body out of whack because of injury and the repetition of specific physical actions, leading to the restriction of movement and/or pain. Remedial, or sports massage, is a technique used to bring the body back into balance by getting deep into the muscles that have tightened and releasing them. Because the body is a complex system of interconnected soft tissue, the therapy needs to be tailored to each individual case. Addressing the imbalance that is causing the problem, not only at the site of the symptoms, but also the surrounding muscles.

Myofascial Release

Fascia is a strong, thin, elastic connective tissue that wraps most structures within the human body, including muscle. Check the blog on fascia. Fascia supports and protects these structures. Myofascial release is a technique that treats skeletal muscle immobility and pain by focusing on releasing constricted fascia along the path of what is causing the problem.

Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic drainage is a technique that facilitates the natural drainage of the lymph, which carries waste products away from the tissues back toward the heart. The lymph system depends on the natural contractions of the smooth muscle cells in the walls of lymph vessels and the movement of skeletal muscles to propel lymph through the vessels to lymph nodes and then to the lymph ducts which return lymph to the cardiovascular system. Manual lymph drainage uses a specific amount of pressure (a light touch) and rhythmic circular movements to stimulate lymph flow.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy adds a lot of weight to the front of the body, shortening those muscles while causing back muscles to work to keep the body straight. The forward posture that is caused by carrying a heavy weight is supported by the opposing muscles, namely the glutes and lower back. At the same time the shoulders tend to fall forward putting strain on them and the neck. These imbalances in the body can cause sciatic, lower back pain, pain along the groin line, sore legs, shoulders, and neck issues. Myofascial release works on the soft tissues allowing the fascial lines to be released and the body to straighten up which takes stress off the glutes, lower back and front of the body. Lymphatic drainage is beneficial in the last trimester for swollen legs and feet. Lymphatic drainage can assist with the recovery of mastitis by draining the lymph nodes on and around the breast area.

Neurovascular Release

As an integrative approach to improving structural and functional balance, Neurovascular Release provides a bridge between the deeper touch of traditional myofascial bodywork and the lighter touch associated with osteopathic and craniosacral work.

I was introduced to Maggie through Fluidform when I was 3 months postpartum and had mastitis. Maggie's massage worked wonders to clear my stubborn blocked milk ducts. Maggie offered me such great advice to prevent the mastitis from recurring and her technique was extremely gentle and careful to not damage the breast tissue. My supply came back afterwards and I can't thank Maggie enough. She also reviewed my general alignment and I've since been back to have multiple massages to correct my pelvis and hip alignment which I've found so much more helpful than seeing a physio or oseto. Maggie understands and woman's body so well, and particularly how pregnancy and birth impacts a mother's body. I couldn't recommend more highly!

After a long period of chronic hip and back problems and more physio visits than I care to remember, I found Maggie. Maggie’s myofascial release and massage techniques have been a complete game changer, I haven’t walked into a physio since I started seeing her. She is so knowledgeable and intuitive and works her magic her such a professional way. She can spot the issues in my body’s alignment before I have even mention them. My body feels free and more aligned immediately following a session. I am so grateful I found her!

I've been seeing Maggie since I came to Sydney about five years ago. I've never been to a better therapist for my myofascial and other problems sustained in a bad car accident. She works on an area and I get movement that hasn't been there since I was young. She's always bright and positive, and helps by providing advice on what exercises I can do to help with my pain. She's the one who is making my life worth living. I'd recommend her to anyone - please book a session and find out for yourself.

Holly Garber 04/07/2016

Maggie instantly removed the need for me seeing my chiropractor 3 times a week, my cluster headaches went away immediately after one session, and I believe this comes from more than her knowledge of anatomy, but her connection to your body in treatment! She just knows, feels, see's what others don't.

Maggie was my absolute savior when I repeatedly suffered from mastitis. Maggie worked magic, and despite how uncomfortable I was, and how personal it is, she always made me feel relaxed, comfortable and was able to relieve the discomfort and pain, without the need for antibiotics and ultrasound therapy.

Maggie is my number one recommendation! Not only for breastfeeding mothers, but for a massage that’s tailored to you and actually works!
Thank you Maggie!

Bras Bras Bras

Goodbye to conventional bras and hello to an unrestricted rib cage! Tight fitted bras and underwire are like a tourniquet to the rib cage. Restricting the movement of the ribs under the strap of the bra thickens, almost fusing, thoracic T4, T5 and T6 ribs, which are located at the centre of your back, together. …

Breast implants/reduction correctional placement before surgery

When the rib cage, shoulders and pectoral muscles are unbalanced the placement of the implants or reduction can be adversely effected.   The only way a surgeon can judge is by a visual assessment of how to place and position the implants or reduce the breast tissue on the chest. The top of the torso needs to be …
